For the series "trees" I purposefully use a coarse paper which offers a lot of resistance to the drawing and painting tools. And selecting instruments such as a metal-nibbed or a reed pen enhances the stubbornness of the movement as the image grows.

Strength and counterforce also play an important role in this series. The tree might be crooked, bizarre or exuberant, but the counterbalance should be visible, the force that prevents the tree falling over.
