Sam's Book of Dreams

The graphic art of Sam Israël ( 1949) is inspired by his nightly dreams, which he has been transforming in poetry and short tales for over twenty years. As a next step these texts inspire him to make etchings. While the texts are a free "translation" of the dreams themselves, the etchings usually develop independently out of the dream content.

The smaller etchings are black and white prints, which are hand - coloured later. The larger ones are a combination of printing with mixed media, produced as originals or in an edition of a few prints.
